Help Mohammed seek medical treatment and leave Gaza with family
United States
Hi, my name is Carolyn, and I am raising funds to help Mohammed seek medical treatment for a gunshot wound sustained from an attack by the IOF. Once his leg is treated, he wants to leave Gaza with his family so they can be safe. Right now they need help with accessing basic supplies like food and clothes at very inflated prices. All donations will go to the family to help Mohammed seek treatment, buy food and clothes for the family, and help them leave Gaza when the Rafah crossing is open. Here is his story:
“I am Mohammed, 25 years old, from the Gaza Strip, displaced in the Mawasi area of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip. My family and I (my mother, father, brother Jamal, sisters Israa, Ghadir and Ghaida) live in a small tent. We feel very cold and afraid, and there are no basic necessities of life, such as food and drink. Most importantly, there is no security at all, as the bombing destroyed our only source of income. I used to work at a gas station, and with the intensification of the bombing, it was all destroyed, and there was no source of money. As for me, Mohammed, I was injured by the Israeli army in previous operations by the army in the Gaza Strip. The medical diagnosis was that a bullet hit the right foot, entering without exiting. This injury led to a fracture of the right hip joint. I am now suffering greatly from the presence of the bullet in the pelvic area, and I need to travel abroad. I have complete proof of the presence of x-ray images and a medical report on the case, as the doctor who specialized in my case was recently arrested from Nasser Hospital at the beginning of this year during the last invasion last January. This war is very difficult for those my age who suffer from very serious injuries. Now I seek to complete the treatment phase first and then escape with my family from the war of extermination to feel safe and complete treatment in a better place and with better capabilities as I need intensive sessions of physical therapy and build a better future for me and my family and complete my university studies in business administration. Every year or two, a war would happen and we would lose our health, money and homes and lose security and start from scratch again, but this time it is not possible to start over in this country. Please help me travel with my family for treatment and escape from the war of extermination and this war of famine that has been going on for more than 400 days. The war has destroyed us and there is no safety except by traveling far away as the cost of travel for one person has reached 7000 US dollars and we are 7 people to escape from the horrors of this war. You are my only lifeline to survival. Please help us escape before it is too late. The situation is very catastrophic in the Gaza Strip with epidemics and lack of attention to serious injuries like mine. Help me so that I do not lose what is left of my leg and do not live great suffering here.”
Greetings / Assalamu alaykum
Jan here, writing from Washington, D.C. ♂️, to share a message from Mohammed and an update on the campaign. Carolyn invited me to help fundraise earlier this year and I jumped at the opportunity to feel even just a little less powerless.
Mohammed and I have been chatting almost daily for the last six months. We laugh and we cry together. Last night, he asked me to share this with everyone who has donated:
“This is Mohammed, here with my parents, my brother, my sisters, and what remains of our souls in Gaza– the womb of this war of extermination. My family’s campaign has proven that there are good people who do not accept the silent death upon us. You have been a lifeline and hope for a family that lost everything before finding your love and support. We extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to you for providing all forms of assistance. We hope that you and your family are well, and that your luck in life is better than ours. We hope that you will continue to support us and continue speaking up for us and all of Gaza.”
He studied business in school but, as you can see, he’d make a good poet.
——Campaign update——
First, thank you. If you’re getting this note, you are one of 165 kind souls who have donated. Together we’ve raised more than $10,000! Mohammed and his family barely survive hunger and bombing each day, but they are surviving and it’s thanks to you.
The situation in Gaza is more critical than ever. After months of blockade, a tiny bit of food has been allowed into the Strip this week. At the same time, Mohammed has had to deplete nearly all of his campaign funds–almost half going to broker fees on the ground. A single bag of flour costs hundreds of dollars and it’s gone within a week.
To put it bluntly: After surviving 22 months of bombardment, and 3 months of forced starvation, Mohammed and his family won’t be able to access what little food and water has finally become available.
We can prevent this by making sure they have least $600 per month. Please consider becoming a sustained donor today. You can do so easily on the campaign page by clicking “Donate Now” and making sure the “Monthly” tab is highlighted.
If all 165 of us give $15-$20 per month, Mohammed and his family will have a steady flow of $2,475-$3,300—enough to eat while also saving for evacuation in the future.
If you cannot donate more, here are other ways you can support Mohammed:
— Text blasts to family and friends, sharing the campaign link and encouraging monthly donations, — Creating and sharing social media posts to spread the word about the campaign, — Researching opportunities for Mohammed and his family to evacuate to Europe.
If you’d like to collaborate with Carolyn and I on any of these, please reach out! We’d really welcome your help.
Thank you again for all that you have done. Thank you for not looking away.
With love and hope,
Jan, Carolyn, & Mohammed
